Keep it simple: focus on clean heel-to-toe action with the puck as you're shooting - just like they teach skaters to do when learning to take a wrist shot. In fact that's pretty much what you're doing; taking a wrist shot. After that it's practice, my man. Plain and simple.

sweet i'll start practicing that more next practice, thanks

While practicing shooting will help, there is a lot more to puckhandling than that. You must be able to read the play and live within your abilities.

Preparation is most important. Getting to loose pucks quickly and getting them under control quickly gives you more time and more choices on what to do with it. Start with little plays like stopping dump ins and leaving them for your teammates to pick up behind the net. If you play on a team with the same players all the time, spend some time talking to your defensemen and your coach to work on communication and breakout plans for when you play the puck. Sometimes a short pass or a simple redirection can help your teammates out better than trying to send a high risk pass. Watch pros like Brodeur and Turco and practice their shooting techniques.

ya in my teams practice we do breakout drills but coach sends a pass so it will just stop behind the net and a def. will pick it up. ill ask my coach to send harder passes and have me handle them, thanks.

a good way to shoot the puck is by putting the puck on the heel and while going through the shooting motion let the puck slide off the toe so it does a kind of a sling shot effect.

Summer Trainning

Trainning is going great. I gained 10 pounds already. I changed my trainning to more speed related excercises, and it made a huge difference. When I was on the ice last night, I felt light and my endurance was much better. My only problem now is, like always, my Fleury legs. I always over push too much. I can't get myself to do little pushes when I'm down, but it'll come! My Brian Dx2 pants are awesome still! Love them! Best pair of pants I've ever had. They're big, light, and flexible. I modifi… Continue

Game On!

As some people might know, I was injured last season, so I did not play at all last year. Today, I just started goalie trainning for the first time in months. It was AWESOME! I had a new chest protector (Vaughn Epic 8800), new pants (Brians Dx2 Pro), and a new mask (Hackva). It was pretty ackward with the new equipment, but I managed to do pretty well.

Off Season (dryland) training versus just playing a Summer sport

I'd like to get some feedback and thoughts on the topic of off-season training versus just playing a Summer sport or combining both. Also thoughts on how much ice outside of a goaltending camp, if any, considered to be sufficient to maintain skills.
