About Me:
Took to the net rather late in life....someone was wandering around the Department of Medical Genetics looking for hockey players. I'd only played floor hockey as a teen, but decided to give it a go anyhow. I was 29 at the time.

None of the other girls were willing to step into the net because they were 'afraid' of the puck. I reasoned I had more equipment/padding than the rest of them and that, that fear was in a word - illogical.

I ended up playing for two teams that year. One for the University, and the other for a provincial team. I've been addicted ever since.

My most memorable moments:

Going from back to back games, wearing my pants and socks into the MACS store and hearing commentary from a guy who was originally from Edmonton, now living in Anaheim.

'Only in Edmonton, would you see a woman wearing hockey equipment' , God - I miss this place. He said.

Having 16 goals scored on me by a higher tiered team.... only to have gloved one out the many; off the stick of a lady who'd played on Team Canada.

Watching the look of surprise on one of the oppositions defence, when I goosed him as he was trying to screen me. You know, the end of the goalie stick slides up right into the crevace between the pants and the jock quite well.....and unnerves the hell out of them.

Hi Sharon,
Love your "About Me", I picked up hockey at 24 and goaltending at 26. I liked the story about what the guy said about "a woman wearing hockey equipment", lol. And as goosing someone w/ your stick, I've gotten in a few fights over that, lol. Come over and join the adult goalies.

Summer Trainning

Trainning is going great. I gained 10 pounds already. I changed my trainning to more speed related excercises, and it made a huge difference. When I was on the ice last night, I felt light and my endurance was much better. My only problem now is, like always, my Fleury legs. I always over push too much. I can't get myself to do little pushes when I'm down, but it'll come! My Brian Dx2 pants are awesome still! Love them! Best pair of pants I've ever had. They're big, light, and flexible. I modifi… Continue

Game On!

As some people might know, I was injured last season, so I did not play at all last year. Today, I just started goalie trainning for the first time in months. It was AWESOME! I had a new chest protector (Vaughn Epic 8800), new pants (Brians Dx2 Pro), and a new mask (Hackva). It was pretty ackward with the new equipment, but I managed to do pretty well.

Off Season (dryland) training versus just playing a Summer sport

I'd like to get some feedback and thoughts on the topic of off-season training versus just playing a Summer sport or combining both. Also thoughts on how much ice outside of a goaltending camp, if any, considered to be sufficient to maintain skills.
